Heart Smart Weight Loss, LLC is a physician directed, multi-faceted, weight loss lifestyle program designed to address the growing epidemic of adult obesity. We strive to educate our patients on lifestyle changes that will ultimately improve their self-esteem and reduce their risk of comorbidities which will overall improve their quality of life.
Heart Smart will incorporate four basic modalities to achieve long-term success for its patients. Nutritional Counseling, Physical Exercise, Psychological Counseling and Pharmaceutical Therapy when indicated. Future growth plans will include the incorporation of dietary supplements, meal replacements and new bariatric procedures that ae less invasive than ones currently being used in the industry
The principal members are Joseph S. Gage, MD and Cynthia L. Schiefer, CMPE. Dr. Gage is the Medical Director responsible for all clinical aspects of the practice including but not limited to treating patients, overseeing ancillary practitioners, and procurement of supplements and nutritional point of purchase products. Cynthia L. Schiefer is the Executive Director responsible for but not limited to managing all financial, legal and accounting tasks and licensing.
Dr. Gage is the Founding Member, President and Managing Partner of Stuart Cardiology Group, PA. He is a board certified Cardiologist who graduated from New York University School of Medicine in 1982. He did his Internship and Residency at Bronx Municipal Hospital Center and his Cardiology Fellowship at The Weiler Hospital of the Albert Einstein College of Medicine. Dr. Gage has become very interested in obesity medicine and passed his Board Certification exam. He is currently on the Martin Memorial Health System’s Board in Stuart Florida and has previously served on the Critical Care, Medical Executive and Strategic Planning Committees as well as past Chairman of the Bylaws Committee.
Cynthia L. Schiefer is currently the Executive Director of Stuart Cardiology Group, PA and has been with the practice for the past 20 years. The majority of her time there has been in management rolls. Her main job duties include accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll processing, pension/profit sharing management, insurance procurement, working with the accounting/legal teams, human resource management, on-boarding of new practitioners, physician liaison and attending shareholder meetings. For the past several years Cynthia has also managed the Meaningful Use project as well as regulatory filing. She is a member of the American College of Medical Practice Executives with the designation CMPE, Certified Medical Practice Executive. She will be completing her Health Coach Training in July 2018 through the Institute of Integrative Nutrition and is excited to work with clients to achieve their health goals.
